Abstract

This case shows the financial crisis of AD Retail, which is a holding company that operated in the Chilean retail sector. Although the consequences of the social crisis in October 2019 in Chile, led the Board to make the decision to voluntarily submit to bankruptcy, Pablo Turner, Chairman of the Board of AD Retail, is reflecting the potential scenarios if the Chilean social crisis deepens in 2020. Hence, he was wondering whether the company should suspend temporarily the strategic plan 2020-2022 on 24th of December of 2019. He was worried about the consequences of accepting bankruptcy under the O-19 Chilean riots scenario, but above all he reflects about what are the alternatives to overcome the bankruptcy while the social crisis is spreading throughout Chile? And whether or not it is time to shut down?.
