Introduction

This journal's main goal is to disseminate academic business research based on Latin America and those related to general business topics of global interest.

MBR is a biannual journal and currently is indexed in DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), CrossRef, Latindex, AmeliCA and Google Scholar. The languages of publication are Spanish and English.

Articles and cases submitted for publication in MBR must be original and no longer than 8,000 words, including text, appendices, references, tables, figures, photos and illustrations. Longer manuscripts may be exceptionally considered if the contribution to length ratio appears to be high. Submissions must not have been published previously or be under concurrent consideration at another journal. All submissions to MBR will be subject to double-blind peer- review.

All articles in MBR are open access. This means that all articles that have undergone peer review and upon acceptance, are immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download. MBR does not require article processing charges (APCs) from the author for publishing their paper.

Articles must be submitted through this site, following the instructions indicated in the section Submissions.

Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must represent original research that has not been published in any journal, and that is not being submitted for publication elsewhere.  All manuscripts submitted and considered suitable for the journal will be double-blind reviewed by two external reviewers.  The reviewers’ feedback highly influences the editor’s decision to reject or accept a manuscript for publication in the journal.

Articles must be submitted through this site, following the instructions indicated in this section.

Manuscript Preparation

The manuscript can be written in any of the journal's official languages, English or Spanish, and must be formatted according to the APA style.  The abstract must be written in two languages.  Format the entire manuscript using 11 points Times Roman, double spaced 8” x 11” numbered pages and wide (2.5 cm) margins.  Indent each new paragraph.  Do not use italics for Latin origin expressions such as in vivo, et al., per se.  Use decimal points, not commas.  Use space for thousands (10 000 and above) and US Dollars for monetary figures.  Mathematical notation should be clearly explained within the text.  Displayed formulae should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript as (1), (2), etc., flush with the page's right margin. Unusual symbols and Greek letters should be identified.  For equations that may be too wide to fit in a single column, indicate appropriate breaks.

Make sure to proofread the entire manuscript very carefully before submission.  The following instructions apply for manuscripts and cases submitted to MBR.  Authors must follow the instructions and upload the following files in our website www.journalmbr.net :

  1. Title Page

The title of the manuscript should be concise and informative.  Titles are often used in information-retrieved systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.

A brief autobiographical note should be provided for each author, including full name, highest academic degree, affiliation, e-mail address, and full contact details.  An asterisk following the name should identify the contact author.

Below the information about the authors, please categorize your paper under one of these three classifications:

  • Conceptual paper
  • Empirical paper – research
  • Empirical paper – case study

If acknowledgements and information on grants are to be mentioned, they should only be included on this page, which is removed before the manuscript is sent to the reviewers to ensure objectivity.  In the final version, accepted for publication, they should appear before the References.

    1. Manuscript

a) Title of your manuscript or case in the same language you wrote the paper, followed by the title in the other language (English or Spanish, as appropriate).

b) A concise, accurate and structured abstract is required of no more than 250 words and should include the manuscript's purpose, methodology/approach, findings, research limitations/implications (if applicable), practical implications (if applicable), and originality/value of the manuscript. Similar to the title, please provide the abstract in the other language of the journal.

c) Below the abstract, include a maximum of 6 keywords, avoiding general and plural terms, and multiple concepts.  Avoid using connectives such as ‘and’, ‘or’, and abbreviations that are not firmly established in the field of research. Again, provide the keywords in the other language of the journal. d) Main Text. Present the manuscript in the language of your preference (English or Spanish), and there is no need for translation.  If you are submitting a case, the file must contain the teaching notes, which the reviewers will also evaluate.

Headings must be short, clearly defined and not numbered.  Usual sections of the text in research papers include: Introduction, literature review or theoretical background, which may be the basis to formulate hypotheses, research methods, results and analysis, discussion, conclusion, research limitations and implications (if any), practical or managerial implications (if any), and directions for future research.

Notes and endnotes should not be used unless they are absolutely needed.  They may be used for citing Web sites.  In such exceptional cases, they must be identified in the text by consecutive numbers, enclosed in square brackets and listed at the end of the text on a separate double-spaced page.

Appendices, tables, figures, photos and illustrations should be kept to a minimum and included in individual pages at the end of the manuscript, except for the appendices that should follow the text in separate pages.  Number tables, figures, photos, and illustrations consecutively following their appearance in the text, with Arabic numerals (capital letters for appendices) and a brief title.  In the text, the position of the table, figure, photo or illustration should be shown by typing on a separate line the words “Insert Table 1 (or Figure 1 or Diagram1 or Photo 1 or Illustration 1) about here.”  Data presented in tables should not duplicate results described elsewhere in the text. Avoid vertical rules in tables. Place footnotes to tables below the table body and indicate them with superscript lowercase letters.

Citations in the text should consist of the author’s surname and date of publication, separated by a comma, enclosed within parentheses, and should be inserted before punctuation and/or at a logical break in the sentence.  If several citations are needed, separate them with semicolons, and list them alphabetically.  Give the page number only if necessary for a direct quote.  If the author’s name has just been listed in the text, the date in parenthesis is sufficient.  If two or more works by an author have the same year, distinguish them by placing a, b and so forth after the year of publication.  Use et al. after the first author’s surname for works by four or more authors.  Example:  Falcon’s latest findings (2018) have been questioned by some (Rodriguez, 2019; Travis, 2020a; Travis, 2020b), but are generally accepted by others (Lee & Jones, 2021; Luna, Tovar, & Ford, 2019).  Other researchers (Hunt et al., 2020; Lopez, 2021) have found that…

e) References. Ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa).  Unpublished results and personal communications should not be in the reference list but may be mentioned in the text.  Citation of a reference as “in press” implies that the item has been accepted for publication.

References should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary, double-spaced, and attached to the text on a separate page.  Works with the same author and with two, three or four co-authors are listed alphabetically rather than chronologically.  References should be in the following format:

Submission of Revised Manuscript

The revision of a manuscript should consider the observations that both editor and reviewers have provided to improve the manuscript and its contribution to the targeted body of knowledge.  Authors must submit into the website two files: a) the new manuscript; and b) the specific response to the reviewers’ comments. Two or more rounds of revision may be needed to achieve the goal of contributing a publishable manuscript.  For all rounds, please ensure you are using the correct ID number of your manuscript.

Manuscript accepted for publication

The author (s) must ensure that the article is complete, grammatically correct and without spelling and typographical errors. Printing proofs can be offered before publication.

Once a manuscript has been accepted for publication, authors will be required to complete and sign the Journal Article Copyright Form available from the Editor-in-Chief. The Copyright Form transfers the article's copyright to ASFAE (i.e. the publisher) to ensure the broadest possible dissemination of information.
