Abstract

The research sought to analyze the academic performance, according to the income variables, of the graduates between 2009 and 2016 of the Commercial Engineering degree at the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC), Campus Chillán. The low academic performance in tertiary education has been a concern for the actors of Higher Education in Chile. In this same line, the study focused on the reality of the School of Business Administration, which between 2009 and 2016 entitled 249 of its students. The data matrix was constructed with 9 explanatory variables, leaving as dependent variables the academic performance, measured with the curricular average of grades. Three contrast methods were used: ANOVA, contingency tables and multiple regression by Ordinary Least Squares. The results obtained in the research reveal the most influential factors in the curricular average, among which stand out: Preference and age on admission, the NEM, the commercial professional technical educational branch and PSU math and language. Finally, by estimating the model it was possible to identify three types of income profiles that allowed a good analysis of academic performance measured in the curricular average obtained by the graduates during the career.
