Main Article Content
Abstract
This research analyzes the effects of public municipal spending as a determinant in the re-election of mayors of 346 municipalities in Chile in 2012, which considers public municipal spending since 2009 to the pre-election period of 2012. The methodology of this study is based on an estimate using a logistic regression model, which allows to conclude that there is a positive and significant relationship between the level of expenditure used mainly in the pre- election period and the election of mayors in effect, indicating a possible opportunistic behavior of candidates who are re-apply. On the other hand, related variables such as income transfer and the coalition are significant and gene- rate impact on the election.
